Robotic behaviour depends on the interaction between embedded firmware, controller software, drivers, networks and application code. Before suggesting an update, a service team needs to understand the configuration that was working and the change that preceded the fault. An update is not a universal repair and should not be applied simply because it is newer.
Use manufacturer-approved procedures, authorised access and a tested change plan. Preserve approved configuration and backup records, confirm compatibility and define how the system will be validated afterwards. Where ROS is used, structured diagnostic information can support investigation; a diagnostic message alone does not establish that a robot is safe to operate.
Planning checklist
- Record versions and dependencies
- Agree a backup and recovery plan
- Validate the complete application
